About Us

Hounds & Hooves Dog Training is very lucky to be based on the Whitcombe Racing Estate just outside Dorchester, Dorset. We provide Dog Training, Puppy Training, Adolescent Dog Training, 1-2-1 Dog Training, Recall Workshops, Loose lead workshops, Jumping Up Workshops and Dog Agility Training. To compliment the dog training we also offer the Perfect Fit Harness and have a wide range of Dog Treats and Training Toys. What ever you choose to do with us we will give you and your dog a warm waggy welcome and our ethos is always to make training fun and positive.

When your dog joins us they are not just seen as a number, or another client to fill a spot. They become family. YOU become part of OUR family. Your dogs needs are very important to us and we take time and care to make sure that they are extremely happy when they are with us. We believe each dog has their own story and we pride ourselves on the commitment to maintaining lasting relationships with all our clients be it two legs or four.

Emily

Hello, I’m Emily. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, having grown up with a menagerie of dogs, cats, birds, horses, and small furries – however it was a Jack Russell called Neville, the first dog that was mine and mine alone, that ignited my passion for dog training. He was incredibly easy to train and went along with every silly trick I asked him to do and I thought ‘this dog training thing is a doddle!’… and then came Dottie. A spaniel who would far rather sniff out rabbits than be anywhere near me. It took me three years of competing in agility unsuccessfully, before we got our first clear round – but we did, and I was hooked!

Since then I have competed across the country in agility, read every book I could get my hands on, attended every seminar that money will allow, and gone on to study canine behaviour at the University of Hull. I hold a 1s class BSc in Canine Behaviour Management, and an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training with Merit. After a nerve wracking assessment I also qualified as a member of the APDT in 2021, meaning I subscribe to ethical dog training, based on the latest  research.

At home I share my life with three dogs - a Collie X Jack Russell called Kyla, and two working cocker spaniels; Bumble and Glitch, as well as my seven year old human child, Alfred. I am lucky enough to have been teaching here at Hounds and Hooves for nearly six years now and I adore it; the feeling that you are enabling dog and owner to have a fantastic life together and seeing their bond develop is second to none.

A particular passion of mine is enabling our working breeds to live truly fulfilled lives in normal family homes. Figuring out the puzzle of what an individual dog requires in order to have their needs met and how we can make that work for their family is fascinating to me - after all, no two dogs are the same, and neither are their owners!
